Small in size, with a long tail and tufted hair at the tail end, and short hind limbs. Having 20 teeth, it is named after the 8-shaped surface of its cheek teeth. Skilled at digging tunnels and possessing strong sociality, only distributed in Peru, Bolivia, Chile, and Argentina in South America. They communicate through 17 different vocalizations and exhibit strong curiosity. They also use tools such as rakes to obtain food, demonstrating their intelligence and adaptability.
